The Reef from the Air

These photographs were taken through the grubby window of a six-seater plane en route from Cairns to Lizard Island. We took off from Cairns in a rainstorm, and flew through clouds most of the way, but as we approached the island the sun shone just enough to give us a good view of the reefs that we would learn to navigate so well in the next week. On the way back to Cairns the sun shone full all the way, and we had an amazing view of the Far North Queensland coast in one widow and the outer barrier reef in the other.
